Reading

At Whitehill, we want children to develop a love of reading.  You can help at home by listening to your child read and encouraging them to read every night.

Reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and Friday with the expectation that the book is read 3 times before it is changed to develop stamina, fluency and understanding of what has been read.

Their progress and understanding will be greatly improved if you hear them read for 10 minutes each day and discuss what they have read with them.

The more they read, the more they will become confident and fluent at reading.  Boom Reader is a digital reading record which allows you to log your child's reading activity.

P.E.

Outdoor PE takes place on Mondays

Indoor PE takes place on Tuesdays

Forest School takes place on Thursday for Autumn Term 1. Children need to attend school in appropriate clothing for Forest School and bring a change of footwear.

We are very grateful to Stockport County FC, who have supplied us with PE kits for every child.  The kits include a bag, t-shirt, shorts, jumper and jogging bottoms.  We will send the kits home each holiday for washing. Please can you provide trainers or pumps for outdoor sessions.  If your child wears earrings and is unable to remove them on their own, then they should be removed in the morning before school or plasters will need to be sent in with your child so that they can cover their earrings before PE.  Children with long hair will need a hair tie for P.E.

Homework

The children will be given homework each week on a Friday to be completed by the following Wednesday. The homework will consist of Maths and English workbooks there will also be Spellings and Times Tables.  Occasionally the children may be asked to find out information for a Science or History topic. It is very important that children complete homework tasks and try to develop their independence with this.  If your child finds any particular task really challenging and you have had to give a lot of assistance, please send a message on DOJO and we will be happy to support.

Daily Snack

We are currently providing the children with a daily snack which consists of a piece of fruit. Children can also bring money in to purchase rice cakes and bread sticks.

From the start, we encourage all children to be responsible for securing their own belongings in their locker as it fosters their independence. We are sure you will help us in this by encouraging the children to become more independent and responsible.

Class Dojo

Class Dojo is an important way for teachers to encourage students and contact parents about their child's progress in class. It can be used online or downloaded as an app on iOS and Android devices. Please ask if you require a copy of your log in.
